SUSTAINABILITY AT ERGONOMYX

LEVEL® Certification

Ergonomyx is committed to acquiring third-party certifications that demonstrate that our products, facilities, and organization have met rigorous sustainability criteria. We are proud to announce that as of November 2021, our Natural (also known as “Bamboo”) Smart Sit-Stand Desk is now LEVEL® 2 certified by BIFMA: a voluntary third-party certification program for environmentally and socially responsible office furniture. It contains measurable criteria for achievement and performance in three impact categories: Environmental, Health and Wellness, and Social. Based on the number of criteria met, companies can achieve one of three performance tiers: LEVEL® 1, 2, or 3.

This certification opens up specific business opportunities while signaling to all our customers and stakeholders that we are verifiably dedicated to sustainability. Another major benefit of the LEVEL® program is that it has incentivized us to develop a number of critically important company policies and programs. We greatly appreciate all our employees’ participation in this process!

Energy and Environment

Our Energy and Environmental Policy lays out a set of environmental principles and commitments which guide our activities and decisions regarding sustainable development. We have also implemented a Design for Environment program, through which environmental considerations are systematically integrated into our products’ designs. To ensure a long life and proper care for your Sit Stand desk, customers can access our Sit Stand Desk Maintenance Infographic. To support environmentally responsible end-of-use management, customers can access our Desk Disassembly Instructions & End of Life Management Infographic which provide information on how to properly recycle the Smart Sit-Stand desk. Ergonomyx also offers out-of-warranty repairs for our Smart Sit-Stand desk for local customers upon engineer review to extend functionality and longevity of our products. More information can be found at https://www.ergonomyx.com/warranty/.

Ergonomyx has also inventoried our buildings’ energy use and Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, and have reported our 2020 fiscal year emissions through a voluntary greenhouse gas reporting program. 100 percent of these emissions have been offset through credits purchased from Less Emissions Inc. which supports various renewable energy projects. More details on these policies and programs are publicly available by request.

Social Responsibility

Another core component of our commitment to sustainability is our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy, which is aimed at improving social conditions within our company and the communities and businesses we interact with. It features enforceable guidelines regarding Labour and Human Rights; Equal Opportunity; DEI; Harassment; Conflicts of Interest; Insider Trading; Bribery; Corruption; Whistleblowing; and more. Copies of our CSR Policy can be provided upon request.
Also available upon request is our 2020-2021 Social Responsibility Report, which evaluates many Ergonomyx initiatives including our: CSR Policy; Supplier Code of Conduct; Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Program; Emergency Preparedness Plan; Employee Wellness Program; Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Policy; Harassment & Discrimination Policy; Employee Volunteer Program; and Outreach and Engagement Efforts. The Report also includes an informal internal assessment of Ergonomyx’s conformance with Social Accountability 8000, a voluntary international standard featuring a set of social accountability criteria. Comparisons between subsequent reports will allow for tracking of progress in these areas.

Bamboo Tabletops
Built to Last

Our commitment to sustainability drives us to minimize negative impacts and maximize value for our customers and the environment. Our Smart Sit-Stand Desk tabletops are made out of bamboo - an incredibly durable, sustainable and long-lasting material. Bamboo is grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizer and doesn’t require irrigation. It also requires fewer resources to harvest and produce compared to timber or steel. We are proud to work with suppliers who share our sustainability values and provide us with 100% Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified bamboo. This means that the production of our tabletops does not add to the destruction of any forests and that every business along the production chain (forest owner, farmer, manufacturer and seller) participates in ethical and sustainable business practices.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We are an open and equal opportunity employer that values diversity and is committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all aspects of our business. We believe DEI is essential for creating a cohesive, productive, and well-rounded company as it allows the incorporation of ideas and abilities from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. By embracing and promoting DEI principles and initiatives, we can more effectively serve the diverse communities we work in.
All employees are required to follow the guidelines laid out in our DEI Policy, as well as our Harassment and Discrimination Policy.

ChopValue Partnership

Our commitment to continually find innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint led to our strategic partnership with ChopValue in May 2021 to create environmentally-friendly office furniture solutions. ChopValue, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, provides high-performance products created entirely from recycled chopsticks. By transforming discarded single-use chopsticks and transforming them into brand new decor and furniture, it creates a net negative carbon impact, which means it actively reduces carbon emissions in the atmosphere. Overall, it’s a highly sustainable business model that reduces waste and pollution.

Through this partnership with ChopValue, we learned a lot about sustainably-sourced furniture options and how to create an even more sustainable way for people to build healthy habits at their workstation.

Chemical Management

At Ergonomyx, we strive to create high-quality products using materials and chemicals that are safe for our employees, our customers, and the environment. To achieve this, we work with our suppliers to thoroughly assess the composition of every material and chemical used in our production processes. We then use this data to minimize chemicals of concern throughout the product lifecycle and replace them with safer alternatives as needed.
This approach covers products that are acquired from our supply chain, used in manufacturing, and exist for any other reason in our facilities. For more information on this process, copies of our Key Chemical and Risk Policy can be provided upon request. We can also provide a summary of a chemical alternatives assessment we performed as part of our larger Chemical Impact Reduction Strategy.
